This is a comment I received from Neena for my post 'Valentine's day thoughts'. Frankly I have been also thinking about it for a while , I thought I will ask what my other friends think .
Here is my two cents . I would like to know what you think !
I believe in a ‘ Valentine’s Life’ than a ‘Valentine’s day’ . Don’t we all live for the one’s we love ?
If we start thinking of it as a waste of time , money and culture intrusion , what is the point of all the other celebrations and festivals ? They were also started at some point and then became a part of our culture . Don’t we spend a fortune celebrating all those festivals ?
What is important is we should not let ourselves carried away to a point that the days become more important than the life or what it is celebrated for . Even when drowned in the noise we can take our stand , Can’t we
Instead of joining the shopping spree and the hullabulla we can give a hug or a smile , or do something that make the ones we love happy 
or we can have a quiet evening with the family But it was nice to celebrate the day in a naive and girlish way too , I would add
May be world is moving into a global festival culture . Isn’t there some good in it ? The world coming together to celebrate a festival not for the sake of religion or caste but for love , for nature , for planet earth , for peace , for brotherhood , for mothers , fathers or other happy moments in life . I am loving the idea.

Personally, I do not celebrate this day and celebrate love whenever I feel like it :) At the same time, I respect other people's ideas if they think they want to celebrate the day. I more live life like 'to each his own' :)
ReplyDeleteIt's def. not a waste of time, but probably the thought that it is just being commercialized makes a few feel that the true meaning of love is being lost!?!
Hmmm its a nice thought that the world comes together for a festival which has no religion but then valentines does have a religion Or am i wrong ..

world would be a better place ot live in .. as such in todays world we have lost the idea of religion ..

Hmmm... interesting thoughts, Ash. Love the way you've said the 'world comes together'... that is really beautiful :-) makes me WANT to celebrate V day the next time it comes around. Or perhaps, like you said, every day can be a V-day if we live a V-life :-)
ReplyDeleteI am with Swaram. I do the same. I don't 'celebrate' the day, but see no harm in it as far as we don't lose sight of the reason why we are 'celebrating' it. As far as we are rejoicing in the lve we have for our loved ones, and not just going with the 'in thing', if you know what I mean... it should not matter, should it?

ReplyDeleteI have never understood those who are up in arms against any sort of day, be it Friendship day or Valentine's day or whatever day saying that why have a day, love, freindhsip etc is for all year round.
I ask, 'Nobody is forcing you at gunpoint to celebrate, right??' If you don't want, just keep away. Let those who want to celebrate do so.
The logic that love is for all the year round and not for a single day to celebrate does not count with me. Yes, love anf friendship etc are for always. So is it so fragile that celebrating it for one day will make it vanish?? Does celebrating one day negate what exists on other days?? If it happens that way, it is the problem of the individuals concerned, not of the celebration itself.
How about Raksha bandhan?? Does celebrating it mean that sisters and brothers love each other only on one day and not all the year round?? I have never heard anyone say anything against Rakshabandhan when the relationship between a brother and sister is celebrated.
Why have Karva Chauth?? do wives hate their husbands the rest of the year??
Live and let live. Let those who want celebrate. Don't take away the joy of their celebration.
